Alcatraz!

While my parents were here, they wanted to see some of the nearby sights, so we visited San Francisco on Friday, November 6. One of the main things they were interested in was Alcatraz Island. We rode a boat to the island (Gracie loved the boat, by the way), got on the island for a few hours, and then rode back to the pier. It was a pretty rainy day, but it was still fun to look around the prison and learn about its history. Dave, his sister Kristine, and Gracie even walked to the top (the equivalent of a 13-story climb--and Grace walked almost the whole way!). Dave took tons of pictures, but I don't know the story of most of them, so I'll just post a few here.

A doorway within the main building--look how thick those walls are!

(I didn't go all the way, because Katie was ready to eat. On the bright side, I can now say that I've nursed a baby inside Alcatraz! ;) )

The whole fam, back on the pier--Katie was really into it! ;)

After that we went to Pier 39 and had fun looking at the shops, riding the carousel, and eating dinner at Bubba Gump restaurant. While we were at Bubba Gump, a Marine and his bride (dressed in their wedding best) came in to eat dinner. Gracie was pretty excited, so we went over and she told them congratulations and then said, "You a princess!" The bride was very excited, and it was pretty cute. Then we headed home, very tired from all our adventures!

Did you ever refer to Alcatraz as 'Azkaban' while you were there? I dunno...I might do that....
