Meeting Steven Kellogg

As part of BYU's education program, Alicia gets invited to all sorts of wonderful activities. Friday and Saturday (the 15th & 16th) BYU held its 18th Symposium on Books for Young Readers. Alicia was invited and they waived the $144 fee for her. She went to the Welcome and 2 other presentations. The one that really stood out was with Steven Kellogg as the speaker. He told them a story and was really animated, got into all of the voices, and even had a large pad of paper that he used to quickly draw out the scenes as he told the stories (No, she didn't get to keep one of the drawings). But she came home and told me all about it, and then took me back to the Provo City Library where the event was being held. We went to the bookstore and bought a hardcover compilation of 11 of his childrens books. We then went to the main auditorium for the book signing. There were a total of 6 authors there, but we were most interested in him. It was an hour to an hour and a half that we ended up waiting even though we weren't too far back in line. We found out that besides some of the ladies having a good 5 to 10 books for him to sign, Mr. Kellogg was drawing a picture in addition to each signature. The wait wasn't so bad either since our cousin Charity came and kept us company. She had the same book she wanted to have signed. It was a good experience. Mr. Kellogg was extremely friendly and is very talented.
